The GLOW project (formerly known as GAHWP-LT) is a collaboration between Briga and Catholic Education Flanders (KOV). Financed by Erasmus+ using KA210 funding, we are working together to create a guide related to prompt writing. The aim of the prompts, and the overall use of ChatGPT (our chosen LLM), is to aid teachers in creating lesson plans for their learners.
Teaching migrant learners Norwegian and Dutch (Flemish) has been the common ground for Briga and KOV. Our learners are adults who have varying school backgrounds, and many of them are in jobs where language is a barrier to promotions or simply not a valued necessary skill. This introduces a challenge in learner motivation, as well as teachers having to tackle many educational backgrounds.
Learner levels can often vary in classes, even when the language level of a class is set, such as A1 or B2. The challenge our teachers face often is how to adapt a lesson plan on short notice. With an increase in complaints related to being overworked, and a lack of time to make the necessary adjustments, we have turned to generative AI to see if we can ease our teachers workloads.
GLOW will spend 2025 training and testing teachers in how to write prompts, with the final goal being to publish a guide for all teachers to be able to use. The teachers will be split into three groups, one acting as a control group, with two other groups using ChatGPT (one paid, one free).
We have already gone through six rounds of prompting with our teachers, and with the technology changing every month, we see that the learning curve is steep for many. Quality is of utmost importance, and the project team is working together with teachers to ensure that the results from ChatGPT are equal to those of the control group.
We look forward to sharing our results with you all.
